We weren't there long enough to do a whole hell of a lot, so I'll breeze through this:
-really good peanut butter brownies
-glass Diet Coke bottles (but no bottle opener for awhile)
-books sent to Nancy Pelosi
-seeing one of our first high-school students in attendance (and he plays the sax!)
-yet even more bus signings
-ridiculous amounts of mail to be sent to legislators
-Beth learning to stand in the middle of the room and have good pictures taken of her
So McLean was successful, and we headed to Maryland for the night.
The city of Annapolis won me over last week. It's beautiful, and this campsite we went to was even more proof of how gorgeous Maryland is.
I really wanted to run off the edge of that dock and swan dive into the bay, but there were a few problems with that:
1. I had a nice dress on.
2. Beth might have thought I was nuts.
3. There was a half-eaten fish in the vicinity
4. It was only about three and a half feet deep.
So I was just content ignoring the half-eaten fish, jumping in the shallow wading areas and just generally being a four-year old.
So then we left for New Jersey. About an hour or two into our drive, I hear Gordy, the bus driver say: "Go get Beth. We just got pulled over by a weigh station."
Great, right?
Turns out the Department of Transportation saw the bus, was intrigued and pulled us over just to see what was up with our bus. A few of their employees actually came out, talked to us, and signed the bus...along with a few truck drivers who got pulled over for less cool reasons.
(One of the truck drivers, Luke, myself, and a Department of Transportation employee)
So after we answered some questions, we drove through Philadelphia. I've never been to Philadelphia, but I have now seen the skyline, where the Phillies play, the top of a few old ships and the road sign for Independence Hall.
So then we pressed onto New Jersey, where we met another organization - Campaign For Liberty, but Luke can tell you more about that. I got a few hours off and managed to go to dinner with Kevin for the first time since January, which was amazing.
So Luke and I are back in Buffalo for Memorial Day Weekend, and we're trying to get ready and pack, because we're leaving for the rest of the summer on Tuesday.
First stop: Michigan.
Should be a good time. We'll keep you posted.
